Jeno Singh was born in Isipingo, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal on 8 December 1979. He matriculated in 1997 from Isipingo Secondary School, Isipingo, Durban.

He has the following legal qualifications:

  • LLB (Law) Degree, from the University of KwaZulu-Natal;
  • B Tech Degree in Forensic Investigations from the University of South Africa;
  • Postgraduate Diploma (Forensic Investigation and Crim. Justice) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal;
  • Diploma in Policing from the University of South Africa;
  • Qualified as an International Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) in 2012;
  • In 2013 he attended a training programme on Anti-Corruption and Governance at the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) based in Laxenburg, Austria; and
  • Courses completed on advanced Project Management and procurement.

     

Work History/Skill set

  • He is currently working at the Public Protector as a Senior Investigator wherein he strengthens constitutional democracy by investigating and redressing improper and prejudicial conduct, maladministration and abuse of power in all state affairs, resolving administrative conduct through mediation, conciliation or negotiation, advising on appropriate remedies or employing any other expedient means; reporting and recommending, advising and investigating, resolving disputes relating to the operations of promotion of Access to information Act of 2000 and discharging other responsibilities as mandated by legislation. In this post he has also supervised investigators and assistant investigators. He has also acted as Chief Investigator within the unit and had to supervise Senior Investigators and Investigators.
  • He was employed from 2011 to 2012 as a Principal Investigator at the Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) wherein he was involved in criminal investigations against members of the South African Police Service and Metro Police. He also supervised Senior Investigators and Investigators in that post.
  • He was employed from 2007 to 2011 as a Senior Investigator at the ICD wherein he was involved in criminal investigations against members of the South African Police Service and Metro Police.
  • He was employed with the South Africa Police Service (SAPS) from 2002 to 2007. Some of duties performed there was Sector Policing, Crime Prevention, Criminal Investigation, Patrol and attending of complaints, Charge Office duties, Charge Officer and Cell commander, giving evidence in court, liaising with prosecutors, and attending to the needs of the community.
  • He has approximately 20 years’ experience in investigations. His experience ranges from general investigation to complex project investigations.

PSA involvement

  • Shop steward of the National Branch of the Public Protector from 2016.
  • Chairperson of the National Branch of the Public Protector from 2020.
  • Within the office of the Public Protector he represents members on the following committees: Sanlam Committee (regarding pension matters for members); Employment Equity Committee (regarding EE matters within the office of the Public Protector); Security Committee, Training Committee, the Bargaining Forum (wherein employer-employee relations are discussed and issues of mutual interest), Covid-19 Committee, Policy Committee.
  • Assistance to members in terms of grievances, internal disputes and disciplinary matters.
  • Appointed from 1 April 2021 representing PSA to serve as an external member on the Safety and Security Education and Training Authority (SASSETA) Legal Services Chamber.
  • On 19 September 2022 he was elected as a Director onto the PSA Board.

     

Community/Public Service involvement

  • A member of the Community Police Forum (CPF) in Lynnwood Glen, affiliated to Brooklyn Police Station, Pretoria. Wherein the CPF members patrol, respond to instances of crime and other security related activities.
  • Elected Trustee since 2021 to a Body Corporate known as Rusoord (NPC) in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal.
